Seeing Clearly Through the Holidays — On Smaller Circles, Bigger Hearts & Choosing What Really Matters
There’s a moment in adulthood when you stop squinting to make people look kinder than they are, or forcing traditions to feel warmer than they feel. A moment where the holidays—usually a glittering blur of expectations, pressure, and emotional gymnastics—suddenly sharpen into focus.
Too many people to please.
Too many “shoulds.”
Too many forced conversations.
Too many traditions I upheld out of guilt instead of joy.
Too many group texts, mass holiday greetings, and emotional check-ins with people who hadn’t checked in with me in years.
This year, though…
I finally saw everything clearly.
For the first time in my entire life, I didn’t do the mass “Happy Thanksgiving!” text.
Not the early-morning blast.
Not the mid-day catchall.
Not the late-night “I didn’t forget you!” stragglers.
Nothing.
And you know what I got back?
Also nothing.
Not a single person—outside of my immediate family—sent me a message.
The message was crystal clear.
Like someone finally wiped the fog off the window.
The thing about clarity is that it rarely announces itself. It shows up in the smallest, quietest shifts.
Like the silence of your phone on a holiday. Like the absence of obligation. Like realizing you don’t miss what you thought you would.
Because instead of scattering my energy across a hundred old connections, I spent the holiday fully present—with HG and his family.
And that day… felt whole in a way I wasn’t expecting.
Warmth without performance.
Belonging without effort.
Joy without depletion.
It felt like stepping into a space that had been waiting for me.
Their table, their stories, their laughter—all of it wrapped around me like a memory I didn’t know I missed. And the ease of it, the flow, the comfort… it grounded me.
Grounding becomes its own kind of currency when life starts to shift.
And lately, grounding has become a theme for me.
As I settle into my new home, I’ve been intentionally creating rituals that make the space feel like a sanctuary—not just a box with furniture, but a place that breathes with me.
One of those rituals has me displaying my new Cocorrina diffuser before HG comes in after work … or when he leaves… or in the early morning when the world hasn’t started tugging at me yet. Their blends feel ancient and soft, like something that steadies your heartbeat. It’s become part of my holiday clarity—creating an atmosphere that meets me where I am.
The same way easing into the morning with MudWtr has become its own quiet revolution. A warm, earthy cup that doesn’t send me spiraling into holiday jitters or caffeine anxiety. Something that encourages slowness and presence instead of the frantic energy I used to mistake for productivity.
That’s what clarity feels like: choosing what supports you instead of what overstimulates you.
And this year, clarity tasted sweet too.
In the midst of HG’s family's dessert table, I added a plate of Macaron Bites—tiny, elegant little moments of joy that felt like something “me” amidst the tradition. Soft, whimsical, a little romantic. They disappeared faster than I expected. I think that’s how new traditions are born: accidentally, but with intention.
And when it came time to bring a hostess gift—not the performative, rushed, last-minute ones I’ve done for years—I’m chosing something thoughtful and beautifully curated from GourmetGiftBaskets.com.
It felt genuine.
Aligned.
Like giving someone a moment of comfort wrapped in intention.
Seeing clearly through the holidays means giving from a full place, not an obligated one.
This was the first time in years where the holidays didn’t feel like something I had to perform my way through.
No proving.
No pretending.
No over giving.
No trying to hold onto connections that only holds me back.
Just a day that felt effortlessly full.
For the first time, in an extremely long time—the holiday felt like it fit.
This isn’t the season of my life where I chase people.
This is the season where I choose myself—and the people who choose me too.
Until Next Time 💋…
