Summer Bedroom Refresh: Create a Cool, Cozy, Retreat for the Hottest Days of Summer
There’s something about the middle of summer that makes me want to throw every heavy blanket into storage, open the windows after sunset, and pretend I live in a breezy little cottage somewhere on a lake.
The reality?
I’m usually battling humidity, perimenopause hot flashes, a dog who somehow takes up 90% of the bed, and a fan working overtime.
Still, I’ve learned that creating a bedroom that feels cool, calming, and intentional doesn’t require a complete makeover. A few thoughtful changes can completely transform how your space feels—and how well you sleep.
Here’s hot I’m refreshing my bedroom this summer.
Start with Cooling Bedding
Your bed should feel like a retreat — not a sauna.
Swap out heavy comforters for breathable quilts or lightweight coverlets made from natural fibers.
Look for:
100% linen sheets
Percale cotton bedding
Bamboo sheet sets
Lightweight cotton blankets
Linen duvet covers
Lighten Your Color Palette
Summer is the perfect excuse to pack away darker throws and rich winter textures.
Instead, bring in soft, airy tones. Even switching out pillow covers can completely change the feel of the room.
Bring Nature Indoors
Nothing make a bedroom feel alive quite like greenery.
Some of my personal favorites and what I have around my house include:
Olive trees
Snake plants
Pothos
Peace lilies
Lavender
Eucalyptus
Fresh flowers from the grocery store every couple of weeks also make an inexpensive luxury.
Bring the outdoors in.
Fresh greenery is one of the easiest ways to create a calm, cozy home. Shop beautiful houseplants from The Sill and give your space a refreshing seasonal update.
Layer Soft Lighting
Summer evenings deserve warm lighting—not harsh overhead bulbs.
I almost never use my ceiling light once the sun starts setting…
Honestly, I don’t even use it that much.
Add Natural Textures
One of my favorite ways to make a room feel cozy during the summer is by using texture instead of heavy fabrics
Think:
Woven baskets
Rattan trays
Wood accents
Linen curtains
Cotton throws
Ceramic vases
Jute rugs
It feels collected rather than cluttered.
Create a Bedside Wind-Down Station
Instead of doom scrolling before bed, I’ve been trying to make my nightstand feel a little. More intentional.
Mine usually includes:
A great novel - Download on the all-new kindle paperwhite Signature Edition
A journal
Insulated tumbler for ice water
Glasses
Lip balm
Lavender pillow spray
Simple comforts have a way of making bedtime feel like a ritual instead of another task.
Keep the Bedroom Cool
If you’re anything like me—and especially if you’re navigating perimenopause — you know that a cool bedroom isn’t just nice to have. It’s essential.
Blackout curtains
Cooling pillow
Portable fan
Ceiling fan
Cooling mattress topper
Moisture-wicking pajamas
Keep electronics to a minimum
Close blinds during the hottest part of the day
Little changes add up to much better sleep.
Everything you need to create a calm, cozy bedtime ritual—from soft lighting and soothing scents to beautiful bedside essentials that help you unwind after a long day.

Summer Scents to Try
I love putting away the warm vanilla fragrance until autumn.
Instead I gravitate toward:
White tea
Sea salt
Linen
Lavender
Bergamot
Eucalyptus
Fresh cotton
Citrus
Sandalwood (always)
A diffuser with lavender and eucalyptus has become one of my favorite nighttime rituals.
From lavender and sandalwood to chamomile and vanilla, discover the scents and bedroom essentials I reach for to unwind after a long day.
Don’t Forget the Details
Sometimes it’s the smallest touches that make the biggest difference.
Try adding a throw folded at the foot of the bed.
Fresh flowers on the dresser
Matching wooden hangers
A woven laundry basket
Decorative books are a non negotiable.
A cozy reading chair is a must. Every time I attempt to read laying down I get no further than half a page before my eyes start drooping.
Linen robe handing on the door. There is nothing more comfortable than a linen robe.
New hardware on nightstands. Small changes create huge impacts you would be pleasantly surprised with.
Framed vacation photos. I love the frame I have on our bedside of mine and HG’s first road trip to Pittsburgh.
They don’t cost much, but they make the room feel thoughtfully curated.

Basements and crawl spaces are easy to forget about — until the air starts feeling damp, musty, or uncomfortable. That’s why humidity control is one of those home maintenance steps worth paying attention to before it becomes a bigger issue.
For readers looking to protect their home from excess moisture, Argendon’s Guardian 60 Crawl Space & Basement Dehumidifer is a practical option designed to help reduce humidity in areas that need extra support. By keeping moisture levels under better control, homeowners can help improve indoor comfort, protect store belongings, and reduce the conditions that can lead to mold, mildew, and that heavy basement smell no one wants lingering in the house.
The Guardian 60 fits beautifully into a seasonal home care routine — especially for basement, crawl spaces, renovation projects, or homes that tend to hold humidity during warmer months.

My Summer Bedroom Essentials
If I had to narrow it down to the items I’d recommend most, they’d be:
Linen sheet set are a must have with the current 3am night sweats.
Cooling pillows help me regulate my temperature. And so I don’t wake up looking like Curly Sue
Lightweight quilt
Woven basket
Amber bedside lamp
Lavender pillow mist
Ceramic diffuser
Insulated bedside tumbler
Batter-operated candles
Together, they create a space that feels calm, cool, and just a little indulgent.
Final Thoughts
A summer bedroom refresh isn’t about chasing perfection or spending thousands of dollars on new furniture. It’s about creating a space that welcomes you at the end of a long, hot day —a place where you can slow down, breathe deeply, and finally rest.
For me, that means, crisp linen sheets, soft lighting, fresh greenery’s, a favorite book on the nightstand, and a room that feels like a quiet exhale after everything the day has thrown my way.
Because the coziest homes aren’t defined by the season.
They’re defined by how they make you feel.
Until Next Time…
